Brexit has brought with it many complex changes for the Irish construction industry. In this NSAI webinar, we are joined by experts from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and Revenue to look at some of the key adjustments taking place, and discuss what you need to do to continue operations. We’ll be covering Construction Standards, the Construction Product Regulation, Economic Operators, Customs and much more.

John Wickham, Senior Advisor, Building Standards
Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage
John is a Chartered Member of Engineers Ireland and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Structural Engineers. In his current position as Senior Adviser, Building Standards in the Build Environment Advisory Unit of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heriate, he has responsibility for the implementation of the Building Control Report Agenda and the provision of strong and evolving building code in support of quality construction, sustainable development and compliance with relevant EU requirements, in particular the Construction Products Regulation. Prior to joining the Department, John worked as a Structural Design Engineer in Ireland, Australia and New Zealand designing multiple residential, institutional and commercial projects.
Seán Balfe, Head of Sustainability and Built Environment
National Standards Authority of Ireland
Seán Balfe is Head of Sustainability and Built Environment with NSAI, and is responsible for the certification of construction products. Seán is a Chartered Civil and Structural engineer.
Michael Smith, Brexit Specialist
National Standards Authority of Ireland
Michael Smith joined NSAI as a Brexit Specialist when the Brexit Unit was established in September 2018. Prior to that, he worked in the Department of Health where he represented the Department on the Government Task Force for Emergency Planning and the National Emergency Coordination Group. He was a member of both the EU HEalth Security Committee and the Management Board of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. He had previously worked in the Department of Finance, Department of Public Enterprise and the Department of Social Welfare.
Ray Ryan, Assistant Principal, Customs Division
Revenue Commissioners
Ray is Assistant Principal in the Customs Division of the Revenue Commissioners. He has over ten years’ experience in Revenue’s Customs Division. He has responsibility for the Brexit trader engagement programme. This role involves providing information and practical support to businesses that will be impacted by the new trading environment with Great Britain in 2021.
