LIT’s Level 8 Construction Management Course Receives CABE Accreditation

The Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) has highlighted the importance of working with a qualified workforce. To this end, the internationally recognised professional body has added the Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT), BSc (Hons) in Construction Management (Level 8, Honours Degree) course to its list of accredited courses.

CABE representatives have said that by working alongside academic partners such as Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT), it can ensure that students studying in the industry are meeting the highest standards required and ensure that today’s graduates are equipped with the necessary skills to succeed in the industry.

LIT’s BSc (Hons) in Construction Management (Level 8, Honours Degree) programme creates an intellectual framework for problem solving, primarily within the context of construction management, but with skills that are transferable to wider socio-economic context. Upon graduating successful students are able to respond to the performance and commercial needs of the client and source optimum design and procurement solutions.

The aim of the course is to give the students an academically challenging, educational experience that ensures that they develop their knowledge base, professional attitudes, leadership skills and commercial awareness to serve the construction industry and society.

Programme Director for the BSc and BSc (Hons) in Construction Management at LIT and CABE Fellow, Redmond Condon MSc C.Build E FCABE, was eager to develop the relationship with CABE to ensure that the BSc in Construction Management course met the CABE accreditation requirements.

“Being accredited by CABE integrates an additional layer of integrity and quality assurance to our Construction Management programme at LIT. CABE provides a wealth of experience from practitioners that work within the Construction Industry and this acts as an invaluable resource when designing curriculum and updating our programme. CABE Accreditation will ensure that our content will be informed by best practice. Professional Bodies enhance the construction industry as they create a community of practice and offer life-long learning opportunities through CPD, and this is important for graduates at the start of their careers,” he said.

John Barfoot, Learning, Education and Academic Director at CABE, said, “The global construction industry has a skills shortage, and it is paramount that the graduates entering the industry are able to prove that they are competent individuals. By working with Academic Institutions, we can help raise the standards in the industry and ensure a safer more competent workforce.”
