About STEPS Engineering Your Future
Now entering its 8th year, the annual Transition Year programme is coordinated by Engineers Ireland’s STEPS programme – funded by the SFI Discover Programme and the Department of Education and Skills and supported by industry leaders Arup, ESB, Intel and TII – and hosted by third level institutions and industry.
During the programme, which is run over three to five days, students attend interactive talks and presentations; get hands-on experience with group-based activities; visit local industry and meet engineers at various stages in their careers. This annual immersion experience has grown from five programmes in 2013 to 18 programmes in 2020 and has engaged over 1,700 students to date.
In 2020, the programme will be hosted by a number of third-level institutions throughout Ireland, including: Cork IT, DCU, DKIT, GMIT, IT Carlow, IT Tralee, IT Sligo, Maynooth University, NUIG, TU Dublin -Blanchardstown Campus, TU Dublin – City Campus, TU Dublin – Tallaght Campus, UCC, UCD and WIT. An industry version of the programme will be hosted by ESB in Dublin, Limerick and Sligo.
