What is a Welding Apprentice?
A welding apprentice is a trainee enrolled in a structured program that combines paid on-the-job training under an experienced welder with related classroom education. Apprentices work towards gaining their welding certification.
Typical Responsibilities:
- Operating welding equipment to fuse metal components
- Using techniques like MIG, TIG, arc and oxyfuel welding
- Reading blueprints and interpreting specifications and tolerances
- Setting up parts, tools and machines as required
- Maintaining equipment and supplies
- Assisting with inspections and testing welds
- Adhering to strict safety protocols
Qualifications:
Physical capability, manual dexterity, technical aptitude, attention to detail, and ability to handle high temperature work environments.
